The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. The law states that ByteDance, a Chinese parent company of TikTok, must sell its U.S. business by January 19 or face a complete ban across the country. National security concerns center on data collection and the Chinese government's ability to influence applications. While TikTok contends that the prohibition violates First Amendment rights, the Court deemed it necessary to force the divestiture in light of security risks. President-elect Donald Trump indicated a willingness to review the situation upon taking office, so enforcement may be delayed.
